"Coming Together"
The family will take a monumental bus pilgrimage to Abbeville, South Carolina. We will tour the areas where our ancestors resided during slavery before the 1859 separation. A special “coming-together” ceremony will be held on the land where Dr. William Barr’s plantation was located – the place where our ancestors were together as a strong family unit for several decades. The ceremony will include the dedication of a commemorative marker placed in an old slave cemetery that is located on the land. This marker will honor our ancestor, Lewis Barr, who died on the Barr Plantation in September 1846. With other locals connected to our history and state dignitaries, the family will partake in a fellowship meal and program in Abbeville. The family will then journey back to Atlanta, Georgia. Note: Because the tour will be guided, it is strongly recommended that family members ride the chartered buses. All family members are asked to please wear a reunion T-shirt.
